OBSESSED Presents

Jurassic Drag

May 20 - 21, 2024
at 8:00pm on Brava’s Main Stage

Brought to you straight from Del Rio Laboratories, Jurassic Drag is part musical spectacular, part old-fashioned variety show with one awe-inspiring surprise for audiences: dinosaurs still roam the earth, and they’re talented to boot. Starring Sherry Vine, Jackie Beat, Coco Peru, Varla Jean Merman, and hosted by a to-be-announced superstar, our Jurassic specimens will impress with stunning feats of song, dance, and comedy. After all, they’ve survived a hostile world and trekked the earth collectively for more than 170 years… which we all know in drag time is roughly 250 million. For that reason, we at Del Rio Laboratories thought it imperative to gather them together for the first time in herstory because let’s face it folks, they’re all gonna be dead soon!

The cast of Jurassic Drag includes legends Coco Peru, Jackie Beat, Sherry Vine, and Varla Jean Merman.

Miss COCO PERU (aka Clinton Leupp) has been a household name in the LGBTQ+ community for over 30 years. She got her start in the early 90's as a downtown favorite in the cabaret world of New York after she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in her first show, Miss Coco Peru in My Goddamn Cabaret, and has since enjoyed an expansive career, ranging from intimate cabaret stages in New York and LA, to television sets in millions of living rooms. She's toured around the world, has over 13 million views on YouTube, and has been in multiple cherished films, garnering multiple awards and nominations for her work.

Drag superstar JACKIE BEAT has been entertaining audiences across the U.S. and in Europe for over twenty-five years with her razor-sharp comedy and hysterical song parodies. Jackie not only warps hits by Britney Spears, Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Cher, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Mariah Carey and many others, but she flawlessly sings her twisted new versions LIVE — hitting every last note. With an illustrious career in television and film, Jackie Beat is also a proud member of the Writers Guild of America and has written special material for the likes of Rosie O’Donnell, Margaret Cho, Sandra Bernhard, Patricia Arquette, Jennifer Coolidge, Elvira and more.

With over 30 years under her sequined belt, SHERRY VINE has earned the title of Drag Legend. Sherry can be seen touring the world with her hilarious and NSFW solo shows, as “Blanche” in Golden Girlz Live and in numerous TV, film, and theatre Productions.

VARLA JEAN MERMAN (aka Jeffery Roberson Loe) starred in the musical Lucky Guy opposite Leslie Jordan in New York at the Little Shubert Theatre, prompting The New York Times to rave, “If Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman had stood in front of the right pair of funhouse mirrors, they might have resembled Ms. Merman and Mr. Jordan in stature as well as comedic talent.” Merman has starred in the films Hush Up, Sweet Charlotte, Girls Will Be Girls, Varla Jean and the Mushroomheads, and most recently, Big Easy Queens. Jeffery played the role of Mary Sunshine on Broadway in the revival of Chicago and in the First National Touring Company. In 2010, he won Boston’s Elliot Norton Award for Best Musical Performance in Phantom of the Oprah. Her 26 one-woman shows have sold out cabaret venues across the globe, as well as filling international concert halls including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall.
